Star Funeral Flowers – Star Tribute

A five-pointed star on a foam base, covered in fresh flowers, is a relatively simple thing to describe. What it means at a service is harder to pin down, which is probably why the shape has stayed in use across so many different kinds of ceremony. Stars have come to represent guidance, light, something that persists. Families don’t need to articulate any of that — the shape does it.

Our star tribute is available in three forms. The classic five-pointed star is the most common — symmetrical and widely understood. A six-pointed Star of David is available where the tribute is for a Jewish service or where the hexagram holds specific religious meaning. A starburst design, with more points radiating outward, gives the piece more visual energy and works well when a traditional star feels too static.

Colour and personalisation

The colour carries a lot of the meaning in this arrangement. Blues and whites are the most common choice — they suggest peace, sky, permanence. Gold and white reads as more celebratory and commemorative; it works for someone whose life felt like an achievement worth marking rather than just a loss to be mourned. Red, white, and blue is chosen regularly for military veterans and people with strong ties to national service. For a child, brighter combinations — multicolour, vivid yellow and white, anything that doesn’t default to subdued — tend to suit the shape and the tribute better.

If the person being remembered had a specific connection to stars — someone who worked outside and navigated by them, who loved astronomy, who performed under stagel lights, who was described throughout their life as a light to other people — the shape will feel earned. For other families, it’s simply the right aesthetic: striking, symbolic, and specific to their person.

Further customisation

Flowers, ribbons, inscriptions, and specific detail elements can be incorporated. If there’s something particular you want worked into the design, mention it when you get in touch and we’ll tell you what’s achievable.

Two working days’ notice is needed. We make the tribute fresh on the day of delivery and deliver to churches, chapels, crematoriums, and graveside.

FAQ

What does the star-shaped tribute look like at a service?
It’s a foam base cut into a star shape, covered in fresh flower heads, positioned on a flat surface or stand. The five-pointed version is the most traditional and the most immediately recognisable. The starburst version has more points and more visual movement — it reads as more dynamic. The six-pointed star is more specific in its associations and is primarily chosen for Jewish funeral services. All three are made to a size that’s clearly visible across a room.

What are the three design options?
A classic five-pointed star, a six-pointed Star of David, and a multi-pointed starburst. The choice usually comes down to whether there’s a specific religious or symbolic reason to choose one over another, and whether the family wants something traditional or something with more energy to the shape.

What colours can it be made in?
Any combination you choose. Blues and whites are the most common and the most associated with the star symbolically — sky, night, permanence. Gold and white suits a tribute that should feel celebratory rather than mournful. Red, white, and blue is most often chosen for veterans and those with a military or public service background. Rainbow or bright combinations work well for children. If there’s a colour that was specifically the person’s — a favourite, something associated with their work or passion — that’s worth using regardless of convention.

Who is this arrangement typically chosen for?
People with a real connection to stars: those who worked in navigation, astronomy, the military, the performing arts. Children, because the star is one of the shapes most naturally associated with childhood and brightness. People described throughout their life as a guiding presence, a light to others, someone people oriented toward. It’s also simply chosen when the family wants something other than a traditional shape and the star fits the person — specific, visible, and meaningful without needing explanation.

Can I add personalisation — a name, inscription, or specific flowers?
Yes. Names, numbers, short messages, and specific flower choices can all be incorporated. Tell us when you order what matters, and we’ll work it into the design where possible. If something specific isn’t achievable — a flower out of season, an element that won’t sit well in the shape — we’ll say so.

How much notice do you need?
At least two working days. Custom-shaped tributes require more construction time than standard arrangements. If your situation is urgent, contact us directly and we’ll tell you honestly what’s possible.

Where do you deliver?
To churches, chapels, crematoriums, and graveside. We coordinate timing with funeral directors to ensure the tribute arrives fresh and in good condition before the service.
